Cr McNally will not stand at next election

Cr Jo McNally is heading into the education field.

Councillor Jo McNally will not stand for re-election at the next Southern Downs Regional Council elections, which are due to be contested in March next year.

It was rather an open secret, but she confirmed her decision with her fellow councillors at a council information session held at the Stanthorpe chambers last Wednesday (15 March).

Later, Cr McNally said that in her final year as a councillor for Southern Downs she hoped to see the finalisation of three major council projects.

“I’d like to see the completion of Stage 1 of the Warwick Saleyards project, the opening of the finished Stanthorpe Art Gallery and Library expansion and the adoption of the Planning Scheme, which underpins development on the Southern Downs,” she said.

Her plans for the future lie in secondary education.

“I am currently studying a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) through the University of Southern Queensland,” she said.

“It has been a privilege to serve my community for the past 14 years on the council, and now the time has come for me to focus on my passion for the field of learning.

“It will be as much a privilege to be able to motivate students to reach their potential.”
