Training to be able to help in an emergency

Learning how to cope in an emergency

A day’s training program to help people become competent in evacuation centre operations will be held in Warwick and Stanthorpe next week.

In Warwick the workshop will be held on Tuesday 28 March at the Warwick Aged Care Service in Dragon Street from 8.30am to 4.30pm. Morning tea and lunch will be included. In Stanthorpe the session will be held on Wednesday 29 March at the Stanthorpe Civic Centre Supper Room.

This training is an initiative of the Red Cross and is in line with Queensland Disasters Management guidelines and Australian preferred sheltering practices.

The events each require a minimum of 12 people to run and will give people up-to-date knowledge about how to establish, manage and operate an evacuation centre. It is designed to help people who are likely to find themselves in a situation where they need to know the roles and responsibilities of running and working a centre including registrations, communications, set-up and operation. They will also receive training on human needs and expectations and how to do a handover at the close of an evacuation centre project.
