Longstanding journalist and former Federal MP Cameron Thompson has taken a senior role as editorial coordinator for the Star News Group in Southeast Queensland.

Cameron will lead the development of editorial content at several of the company’s SEQ publications, including Warwick Today, Stanthorpe Today, Ipswich News Today and newly acquired publications in Goondiwini and Beaudesert/Jimboomba.

A member of the Howard Government from 1998 to 2007, Cameron has a long history as a journalist, working as Chief of Staff for the Queensland Country Life and as as a reporter and sub editor for Fairfax Media, the ABC in Queensland and the Northern Territory, and with regional newspapers including the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin and the Gladstone Observer.

“Star News Group has high editorial standards and is heavily invested in delivering a quality product to the communities it serves,” Cameron said. “The business of delivering news in SEQ has never been so competitive.

“My role is to deliver a balanced, community-minded editorial policy and to grow the range of content. Our newsrooms are growing rapidly, thanks to the support we receive from advertisers, subscribers and supporters.“
