Lots of people like to go away over the Easter long weekend, and that means they miss out on the fun that’s happening at home. It’s enough to make anyone hopping mad.

So what’s a town to do?

Well, at Allora this year the solution was to bring the Easter Sunday antics forward a week so that no one would have to miss out on the hometown fun.

In fact, it started long before Sunday when a white bunny sneaked into at least half a dozen businesses to see how they were getting on with their Easter preparations.

Those who’ve only ever dreamed of seeing the Easter bunny were surprised to know that he’s a lot bigger than originally thought – human sized, really. The giant white bunny was in stealth mode slipping from shop to shop in Allora but someone caught it all on film and his antics were uploaded to the Allora Community Circle’s Facebook page. His mythical status was so severely dented that he threw caution to the wind and turned up to be snapped in virtually every picture people took on Sunday afternoon!

And whoever the wag is who has been writing the posts for the Facebook page, we salute you. No one could read that very, very bunny copy without a chuckle … like when the bunny went into the Allora Butchery to make sure that rabbit stew was NOT on the menu at the Sunday arvo barbecue at the park. And did you know he was also seen going into the Warwick Credit Union to withdraw all his gold carrots?

Well, we’ve been rabbiting on for long enough. On with the lucky tale of Allora’s early Easter Sunday on 2 April. A mailbox decorating competition, which was hotly contested, was judged by local postie Shaz on the Friday and winners were announced on Sunday. About 85 kids had a ball touring the letterboxes and checking if anyone had accidentally left a gift of chocolate inside. The visit to the mailboxes and downtown to see the shops that had entered the decorated windows competition was described as an Easter Bunny Hop. Winners of the mailboxes and windows were announced at the egg hunt and barbecue held at the PL Travers Park later in the afternoon. That was attended by about 250 people.

Rabbit’s foot-note: All in all, it was an eggcellent day. So good, in fact, that they’re planning to do it again next year.
