It was a chance to play at being a superhero or other creative creature when the Cosplay Parade was held as part of Youth Week last week (14 April).

The event was put on by Headspace Warwick organisers, who were keen to give youth the chance to be creative this year during Youth Week. So leading up to the parade there was all the fun of deciding on a character and designing an outfit.

Headspace Warwick Community Awareness Officer Jade Gilchrist said she hoped the event would grow into a big parade over coming years. For this year, there were eight people who put on their outfits and processed through Rose City Shopping World.

“We’re keen to give youth the chance to be able to create something magical. Hopefully this will be an annual event that will build into something amazing,” she said.

After the parade and choosing of winners, the group had an after-party where everyone grazed on snacks and pizza and listened to music. There was also a chance to meet people from other services including APM and Southern Downs Disability Service to find out how they support young people.

Businesses that helped with gift cards for prizes were Rose City Shopping World, Bunnings, Woolworths, Big W, Supercheap Auto, Surf Dive Ski, Kmart, Sugar Stacks, Warwick Cinema and Just Cuts. The Southern Downs Regional Council donated the use of the Town Hall.

“We’re also excited to announce the Battle of the Air Bands. If you can lip-sync, play the air guitar – or any other air instrument – this is going to be great fun! It will be held on Headspace Day, 4 October,” said Jade.
