The Toowoomba Diocese, of which the Southern Downs region is a part, has a new Catholic Bishop.
The seventh Bishop of Toowoomba is Bishop Ken Howell, who was officially installed and welcomed at a liturgical reception at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Toowoomba. The event was attended by 800 people, with 23 bishops and 140 members of the clergy including ministers from other faiths.
The date had special significance for the diocese, as retiring Bishop Robert McGuckin became the sixth Bishop of Toowoomba on the same date 11 years ago.
