YMCA will take over operations at Stanthorpe’s public pool and fitness facilities after finalising a new management agreement with Southern Downs Regional Council in July.

The agreement will bring management processes at the Stanthorpe Fitness Centre and the Stanthorpe Pool in line with the Warwick Indoor Recreation and Aquatic Centre (WIRAC), which has been managed by YMCA since 2017.

According to the council, the agreement will allow the not-for-profit youth organisation to grow and improve the connections both facilities have with the community.

Southern Downs Community Services Manager Michael Bell said joining the two facilities under the one leadership banner would offer a new level of stability for the region.

“WIRAC, the Stanthorpe Fitness Centre and Stanthorpe Pool are fantastic facilities and valued assets to the Southern Downs community as important social and recreational hubs,” Mr Bell said.

“There are obvious benefits in uniting them under YMCA,” he said.

“This new contract offers a level of longevity across the sites that translates to improved investment, increased certainty around arrangements and improved connectivity between these sites and the community.”
