Pilot confirmed dead after light plane crash at Palgrave

The pilot of a light plane which crashed into a paddock at Palgrave, south west of Warwick, has died, authorities have confirmed.

In a statement to media, police said initial investigations determined no one else was believed to be on board the aircraft at the time of the incident.

“Initial investigations indicate the pilot of the plane did not survive the crash,” a statement said.

“Investigators will work with officials from Recreational Aviation Australia (RAAUS) to determine the cause of the crash.”

Police said investigations were ongoing.

EARLIER:

Emergency crews have descended on a paddock at Palgrave, south west of Warwick, where details of a light plane crash have emerged.

Police, firefighters and paramedics are attending the scene of the crash which occurred at a property on Palgrave Road just after midday on Thursday, 19 October.

A spokesman for QFES said the incident sparked a grass fire after the single occupant aircraft crashed into a field.

A landowner reportedly helped create a firebreak to contain the fire, the spokesman said.

A Lifeflight rescue helicopter was also called, but has been deemed no longer needed, it is understood.

The welfare of the pilot is not known at this stage.
