On Wednesday 15 November, 13 dedicated health professionals from the region immersed themselves in a transformative Metaqua class at the Tenterfield Memorial Swimming Pool.

Led by Metaqua Instructor and Swimming in the Field owner Amanda Rudge, the health professionals embraced the Metaqua program to gain firsthand experience of its life-changing benefits. The initiative aimed to equip them with the tools to encourage their patients to lead more active lives while prioritising their own well-being.

Metaqua, a program designed by Sally Walsh in Coffs Harbour, leverages the resistance of water training and the non-weight-bearing properties of swimming. It has proven effective in addressing various health concerns, including weight loss, muscle tone, energy levels, mobility, recovery from injury, chronic pain, and menopausal symptoms.

For the past seven years, Amanda Rudge has been spearheading Metaqua classes in the New England, Granite Belt, and Southern Downs regions, transforming the lives of numerous students of all ages. Recognising the pressing issues of mobility, weight gain, and social anxiety in Australia, Amanda is on a mission to not only get people moving again but also to create a supportive community.

To amplify the impact of Metaqua and showcase the achievements of her students, Amanda Rudge is collaborating on a joint project called “The Water Warrior Project“ with Tenterfield photographer Lara Flanagan from My Notes From Gallery, Studio & Store.

The Water Warrior Project is a celebration of positivity, personal successes, and the magic of movement in and on the water. It aims to commemorate the achievements of Water Warriors, ranging from 13 to 82 years old. The project, now in its first year, is ongoing and will continue until the end of the season in March 2024.

One participant, Kylie Hibberd from Stanthorpe, expressed gratitude for the Metaqua classes, emphasising the significant improvements in her physical, mental, and emotional health over the past 11 months.

“Over the past 11 months, I have seen huge improvements in my physical, mental, and emotional health. I have become more social and talkative, have so much more confidence now to try new things and to meet new people,” Kylie said.

Metaqua classes are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 6am or 2pm in Stanthorpe and on Fridays at 11.30am in Warwick. For inquiries and bookings, interested individuals can contact Amanda at 0422 295 776.

As Metaqua continues to make waves in the region, health professionals and participants alike are embracing the transformative power of water-based fitness, contributing to a healthier and more active community.
