Link up for mental health

Lifeline and Beyond Blue are inking up to support further.

Responding to the escalating demand for mental health services and the need for more efficient resource utilisation, Lifeline and Beyond Blue have joined forces in an innovative partnership.

This collaboration aims to streamline access to support services and provide a comprehensive range of assistance to individuals facing mental health challenges.

As community demands for mental health and crisis support surge, Lifeline and Beyond Blue have strategically aligned their goals to complement each other.

Lifeline will maintain its focus on crisis support and suicide prevention, offering aid to Australians in times of crisis and empowering individuals and communities to be suicide-safe.

Meanwhile, Beyond Blue will continue to concentrate on prevention and early intervention, supporting individuals at the first signs of struggle.

Together, these organisations annually support millions of people with information, advice, online self-help, and referrals via various platforms, including telephone, text, webchat, and digital channels.

Beyond Blue chair Julia Gillard emphasised the need to shift the mental health and suicide prevention paradigm from crisis-driven to early intervention.

“Beyond Blue will continue its focus on supporting people early on – helping people to feel better sooner, to get well, and to stay well,“ she said.

Lifeline chair Jacinta Munro echoed the sentiment.

“Lifeline will continue to focus on crisis support and suicide prevention, supporting Australians in times of crisis and equipping individuals and communities to be suicide-safe,“ she said.

The partnership between Lifeline and Beyond Blue is designed to deliver a more integrated mental health system, with clearer pathways for help seekers and a holistic approach to support.

Ms Munro emphasised the importance of leadership from both governments and sector organisations in achieving better integration within the mental health and wellbeing sector.

“This partnership between Lifeline and Beyond Blue helps to deliver a more integrated system, with more clarity for help seekers, smoother transitions between services, and a greater focus on holistic support,“ Ms Munro said.

As a tangible manifestation of this partnership, Beyond Blue plans to transfer ownership of its suicide safety planning tool, Beyond Now, to Lifeline. The app, which has supported hundreds of thousands of people during a suicide crisis since its creation in 2016, will now be managed and developed by Lifeline.

Ms Gillard expressed confidence in the partnership’s potential impact, stating, “We believe this partnership signals a new way forward, focused on community impact, working together so people can navigate our services with greater ease and clarity.“

The collaboration is poised to revolutionise mental health support, providing a more connected system for individuals seeking assistance.
