Ice-cream cones were the delicacy of choice at Pat Bush Bi-Centennial Park last Friday as Australia Day celebrations kicked into gear in Killarney, despite the heat.

Running for five hours, Killarney’s annual “Australia Day in the Park” drew residents both young and old who braved the heat for an action packed day of entertainment.

Visitors were treated to live performances from Ashley Petersen, Warwick’s Bruce Halter, Tenterfield’s Mitch Smith and Stanthorpe sister duo Nine Year Sister.

Other activities included a jumping castle, face painting, novelty races as well as several whip cracking and sheep dog displays.

Scorching temperatures did nothing to dampen the mood with visitors also served a free scoop of ice-cream upon entry.

Attending with his family, resident Rowan Atkins had only recently moved to Killarney from the Gold Coast, saying he was already loving the friendly atmosphere of his new hometown.
