By Tania Phillips and Andrew Bryson

Warwick Cricket Association have a chance to put more representative silverware in the trophy cabinet when they face off against Lockyer Valley at Mulgowie on Sunday for the Davis Shield.

The shield is a representative competition played within Darling Downs South West Cricket, mainly for 21 years and under with a couple of senior mentors involved.

The final will be played against Lockyer Valley at Mulgowie (Lockyer Valley) with Lockyer going in as favourites after an undefeated run against both Stanthorpe and Warwick however the visitors have one six out of the past seven years.

Warwick Cricket Association president Andrew Bryson said the visitors would not go down without a fight and he expected a top game.

“Warwick top order of Gross, Bourke, Bryson, Doherty Brothers and Lachy Boal has enough class and fire power to compile a decent score against any attack,” he said.

“The rest of the batting includes depth with the likes of Jack Ragh and Seth Esson both capable of contributing handy runs to keep the score board ticking over.

“With the ball Jack Ragh will lead the way.

“Wagner and Kruger have impressed this year and will be expected to follow Jack’s example. Warwick have two quality spinners in Webber and Bryson who should bowl the bulk of the middle overs in the match, and will be used as genuine wicket takers.

“Lockyer will be confident after a good season this far and are rightly considered as favourites, however there is enough quality in this squad to see Warwick continue their impressive Davis Shield record of late.”

So, who is the Warwick Davis Shield team? –Andrew Bryson runs through the team and their strengths ahead of Saturday’s game.

Lachy Gross (captain). (Colts) Classy top order batter, on the comeback trail after some serious knee injuries. Scored a century against Stanthorpe and is one of the few batters in local cricket to score centuries in local, Davis and Mitchell Shield.

Mitch Bourke (Victoria Hill). Powerful top order batter and handy right arm seam bowler. If Mitch gets a good start at the top of the order Warwick will be hard to contain.

Jack Ragh (Colts) -One of the younger members in the team, classy eft arm pace bowler who will open the attach for Warwick. Classy Right hand batter

Seth Esson. (Sovereign). Another of our younger players, making his representative debut this year. Handy middle order batter

Sean Bryson (Allora). Left Hand batter, can bat anywhere in the top order, and crafty off spin bowler. Good communicator in the field.

Tom Doherty (Wheatvale). Right hand batter, can score runs anywhere in the top order, and handy right arm seamer. One of Warwick Cricket’s finest this season.

Percy Kruger (Colts) Another to debut in the rep scene this year, just rewards for his efforts the last few seasons. Bowled well in his debut match and will look to him to continue.

Lachlan Boal (Wheatvale) Right hand batter, finding some form at the right end of the season. When in full flight one of the best batters to watch in Warwick Cricket

Mitch Scheiwe (Allora) A popular addition to any team. “White Lightning” is a true team player. Bowls a tight line and values his wicket when batting.

Hayden Doherty (Wheatvale). WK. Dependable with the gloves and the bat. Full of character that helps guide any team throughout a match.

Nic Webber (Victoria Hill) LH orthodox spin bowler. Has taken wickets for fun in his first season in Warwick Cricket.

Marc Wagner (Sovereign), The third of Warwick’s young guns. Made his mark in Davis Shield this season being a regular wicket taker with his right arm pace bowling.
