Heavy horse enthusiasts and visitors alike gathered at the Darling Downs Heavy Horse Festival on 15 and 16 March to celebrate the region’s pioneering heritage and the majestic beauty of heavy horses.

The event, now in its third year, saw thousands of attendees, a multitude of competitors, and a vibrant atmosphere filled with camaraderie and excitement.

Clint Kenny, president of the Darling Downs Heavy Horse Association, said it was a great weekend that highlighted everything that has gone into building the agriculture industry.

“I love the fact that people get to come here and experience the heavy horses up close,” Mr Kenny said.

“Our showgrounds allow people to get up close to the edge of the ring, and the feedback we are getting from visitors is they love the fact that the competitors are so friendly and educational.”

For the first time, medieval knights housing were introduced into the festival and it went down a treat with the crowds and the Association are looking at making it a staple of the event.

“We are very proud of our event and thankful for the support that we get from local businesses and the local community to make a successful festival every year,“ he said.

The Darling Downs Heavy Horse Festival continues to be a beloved event that celebrates the rich heritage and traditions of the region, attracting visitors and participants from near and far.
