Lights camera action, it was movie time for the seniors of the Southern Downs.

Churches of Christ Warwick and One Table Cafe played host to over 100 individuals, including residents from retirement living, residential aged care, homecare, and community members.

Noo Shepherd, the Campus Manager at Churches of Christ Warwick said the centre has some amazing facilities that can be used to enhance people’s lives.

“The cost of living crisis at the moment is escalating and a lot of seniors can’t necessarily afford to go see a new release movie in the cinemas,” Noo said.

For many attendees, this movie provided a rare opportunity to enjoy the silver screen. Noo said that during a previous movie event, the majority of attendees confessed they hadn’t been to the movies in over a decade.

“This is also just a great opportunity for people to get out and about and socialise,“ she said.

Although the chosen movie, “One Life,“ may have evoked emotions and left some misty-eyed, its storytelling of history resonated with the audience, offering a cherished viewing experience. Free movie screenings are gradually becoming a regular feature at the centre, with plans to host a family-friendly event during the Easter holidays.

“Giving back to the community who supports us is a really important factor as to why we do events like this,“ Noo said.

The centre will be screening “Wonka“ on 6 April, providing families with an opportunity for free entertainment during the holidays, complete with complimentary popcorn. One Table Cafe’s Facebook will have the latest information regarding events.
