A 72-year-old Lockyer Valley man has died after a fatal traffic crash near Cunninghams Gap on Sunday morning.

Police said initial investigations indicated the man had been travelling south on a three wheeled motorbike along the Cunningham Highway when he collided with a caravan travelling in the opposite direction in Tregony at about 10.24am on 14 April.

The caravan was being towed by a four wheel drive, according to police.

The driver of the four wheel drive remained unharmed, though the motorbike rider, a resident of Kensington Grove, located just east of Gatton, was declared dead at the scene.

The highway remained closed in both directions for several hours while authorities cleared the road.

Police have urged anyone with further information or footage of the incident to get in contact.

Investigations are ongoing.
