Australian rules side Warwick Redbacks are reportedly “grateful” for donations they received after thieves broke into and stole several items from the club’s clubhouse including a defibrillator.

According to a statement posted to social media last Tuesday night, club officials were concerned about the theft which occurred just days before the season’s start.

“It is with great sadness that we find that our beloved clubhouse has been broken into once again this week,” the statement said.

“What has hurt us this time [is] that they have stolen our defibrillator that the club had to protect any player or spectator that may have required it.

“This is not an item that many people would keep in their possession.”

The clubhouse, located on Jackie Howe Drive, had also been broken into in February, though nothing was stolen, police said.

Warwick Police Acting Senior Sergeant Cam Slater said police were investigating last week’s incident.

“It appears offenders have gained entry to the clubhouse through a toilet window and stolen a number of items including a defibrillator,” Acting Senior Sergeant Slater.

The Redbacks were able to share some good news, however, on the eve of their season opening Anzac Cup clash against Toowoomba Tigers.

AFL Darling Downs had come to the rescue and replaced the club’s defibrillator while Warwick Credit Union had also donated security cameras.

“These kind gestures, along with the other contributions from other individuals & businesses we will be forever grateful for,” a club statement said.
