Leslie Dam’s recreational area reopened to the public after two months of construction, drawing hundreds of visitors eager to explore the upgraded facilities. The open day featured a range of activities, displays, and tours organised by the community and Sunwater.

Sunwater owns and manages the recreational facilities on the eastern side and downstream of the dam wall while the Southern Downs Regional Council oversees the ’wash pool’ recreation area and eastern side.

Four guided tours were offered throughout the day, and according to a Sunwater representative, the demand exceeded expectations. By 10.15am, just 15 minutes after the event started, all the tours were fully booked.

The upgraded upper recreational area now includes additional barbecue areas, a new playground, improved landscaping, and new footpaths. These enhancements were well-received by community members, many of whom brought picnic rugs to enjoy the sunny day outdoors.

The successful reopening of Leslie Dam’s recreational area marks a significant milestone for the community, providing another beautiful space for families and individuals to enjoy on the Southern Downs.
