Music that goes pop

A bit of serious harmonising on Monday night for some singers who gathered for a rehearsal in Warwick. On Sunday, some high octane artistry from Jonathon Welch will add the pop! Picture: CONTRIBUTED

Get ready for some music that goes pop, because this weekend a concert in Warwick will bring to the stage just one genre of music – classic pop hits from the ’50s to today.

Preparing to pop are community singers from Warwick, Stanthorpe and Tenterfield who will perform as a pop choir under the artistry of celebrated conductor and performer Jonathon Welch AM, who became well known for the work he did when he founded the Choir of Hard Knocks in Melbourne.

He will also bring people from the Pop Choir, a group with members from Brisbane and the Redlands, for the event, Pop Goes Warwick, which will be held on Sunday 16 June starting at 3pm at the Warwick RSL Kings Theatre. Performances will include single choirs and a big sound from the combined group.

The concert will cost $25 for adults and $15 for under 18s or concession card holders. Bookings can be made at warwickrsl.com.au/shop or in person at 65 Albion Street.
