The wife of a truck driver whose semi-trailer rolled on its side and blocked a major Warwick intersection for several hours on Friday has hailed the swift response of onlookers.

The truck had been travelling along the New England Highway through Warwick when it took a right turn onto Wood Street and rolled, taking out a street sign and a set of traffic lights in the process.

Paramedics attended the scene, a QAS spokeswoman said, but reported no major injuries as a result of the incident which occurred at about 10.15am on 7 June.

Apart from a few bruises, Becki Burrows said her husband, who was behind the wheel of the truck, was left relatively unscathed.

“He was stuck in the seatbelt when it rolled,” Ms Burrows told Warwick Stanthorpe Today.

“[I’m] so thankful to the young blokes that came straight to his aid and got him out and all the services and others that rendered assistance,” she said.

“Hugely appreciated to those that helped him out of the truck and also checked on his well being.

“Can’t thank you all enough.

“He’s been a driver [for] over 20 years and never had a major incident.”

The incident forced disruptions to the intersection for at least almost four hours with the truck still on its side at about 2pm.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
