Workplace health and safety officers have launched investigations into Tuesday morning’s incident at the Warwick Saleyards, Southern Downs Regional Council have confirmed.

A man in his 50s was treated for head injuries and taken to Warwick Hospital after being hit by a cow at a cattle sale at about 8.20am on 18 June.

In a statement to media, a spokeswoman for the Southern Downs council, which own and operate the saleyards, confirmed the man was an employee of the Warwick Livestock Selling Agents Association.

“Southern Downs Regional Council is aware of an incident that occurred on Tuesday 18 June at the Warwick Saleyards,” the spokeswoman said.

“Workplace health and safety investigations are underway into the incident and [the] council will provide further comment as appropriate.”

The man was taken to hospital in a “stable” condition, a QAS spokesman said, despite an earlier post by QAS to X, formerly known as Twitter, which labelled his injuries as “potentially life-threatening”.

The spokesman said the man had been “knocked by a bison”.
