Bridging gap for elderly

STAR Community Services, is offering reliable, affordable transport services to the elderly, frail and also those who may be financially disadvantaged.

In every community, there are individuals who face unique challenges in accessing essential services like transportation, participating in social activities, and maintaining their independence.

Recognising this need and aiming to provide a solution, STAR Community Services, a local non-profit organisation, is offering reliable, affordable transport services to the elderly, frail and also those who may be financially disadvantaged.

The initiative targets the elderly, and also residents under 65 years old who have disabilities or are disadvantaged, yet do not qualify for NDIS support.

STAR Community Services has a longstanding commitment to caring for vulnerable members of the community, offering a variety of aged care services.

“By offering transport services to the elderly and also to people with disabilities who are not eligible for NDIS, or those facing disadvantages, we are taking a significant step toward creating a more inclusive community,“ said Patsy Wilshire, CEO of STAR.

“Affordable transportation is crucial in connecting individuals with the broader community and supporting them in achieving their life goals.“

Volunteer drivers play a crucial role in this initiative, ensuring that transportation services are not only available but also reliable and supportive. STAR is inviting community minded individuals to come forward and get information on becoming a STAR volunteer driver or a volunteer- driver.

“Thanks to community volunteers, we’re able to reach and service more vulnerable people. Our volunteers can work around their schedules. We offer full support and training,” said Mr Wilshire.

STAR is hosting a volunteer information day and morning tea on Thursday 11 July from 10am at Granite Belt Neighbourhood Centre at (GBNC) at 8 Corundum Street (Cnr Short and Corundum Streets), Stanthorpe. Please come along, meet your local STAR Team, have a cuppa and meet like minded people.

STAR’s transport support enables individuals to connect with their community, access essential services, and participate socially and economically, all while maintaining their independence. If you or someone you know is needs assistance with transportation costs, STAR encourages you to get in touch.
