For the second year in a row, Borderline Australia has presented the Fran Edney Award to the individual who demonstrated the most personal growth during their camp.

This special recognition was created in 2023 to honour the memory of Fran Edney, celebrating someone who has shown significant development throughout the camp week.

“Fran was one of the most incredible people that I think any of us have ever met. She took one look at Borderline and she just made this place home,” the Borderline community fondly recalled.

The award is not necessarily given to the most outgoing person but to someone who has shown remarkable personal growth.

Carla Edney, Fran’s daughter, delivered a heartfelt speech through one of the Bordies at the 10th Borderline camp, commemorating her mother’s legacy.

“When Cody first told me of his intention to present a Fran Edney trophy to recipients who have shown strength and courage in overcoming personal challenges, I thought this is Mum. This was what she was put on this earth to do.

She helped so many people in so many different ways, her efforts mostly going unnoticed but always organising and meticulously planning every detail for any task that required her attention,” Carla wrote.

“Her dedication to Borderline Australia was unwavering. She always did everything within her power to ensure every event was successful and managed in such a personal way that only a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother could accomplish.

“I know she’d be so proud to be remembered in such a special way, and I know that myself and my family are so proud of her too. Hopefully, we can all contribute long into the future to assist and promote Borderline in their efforts to assist teens in need, continuing Fran Edney’s proud legacy. Love you, Mom.”

This year, Dom Lofaro was the deserving recipient of the Fran Edney Award. Dom was recognised for his kindness, consideration, and willingness to not only grow personally but also to support others throughout the camp. His efforts epitomise the spirit of the award and the legacy of Fran Edney.
