It was a day of celebrations from football field to feast when the mighty Stanthorpe Carlton United Bears marked their 50th anniversary in Stanthorpe on Saturday.

The celebrations began at CF White Oval in the morning with the club’s very popular annual Carlton Club Day. President Amy Torrisi said the event is always a fun part of the calendar but this one was even more special because of the anniversary celebrations.

Foundation members kicked off the morning games by taking over the BBQ and serving up more than 150 sausages to the hungry Bears and their supporters.

She said after a full program of matches, filled with a lot of old faces to watch the current crop of players in action – from juniors through to senior men – the celebration then turned to the Stanthorpe International Club for an evening of presentations and celebrations.

More than 150 people were on hand to remember and celebrate the club’s milestone including all of the foundation members.

The Club used the event to honour some of their biggest supporters inferring Honorary Membership of Stanthorpe Carlton Untied Football Club to the Granite Belt Fruit Freighters, Abraham Family and Stanthorpe Community Bank Branch – Bendigo Bank.

Two new life memberships were also announced on the night Don Gaske and President Amy Torrosi.

Gaske has been involve in the club in all sorts of capacities since the late seventies while Amy has been involved since the 2000s including the past six years as president.
