The Southern Downs Regional Council has officially opened its 2024/25 Community Grants Program, offering $50,000 in funding to support local community groups and organisations in delivering innovative projects that strengthen the community.

Grants of up to $2000 are available for eligible initiatives focusing on community development, arts and cultural development, social services, recreational services, and infrastructure upgrades.

Councillor Morwenna Harslett said council’s grants program acknowledged the important role community groups play in contributing to a connected and supportive region, and she encouraged not-for-profit groups to consider their eligibility for financial assistance through the program.

“Community groups often spearhead projects that improve local infrastructure, services and amenities, and build a sense of belonging and social connection through their endeavours,” Cr Harslett said.

“Council is dedicated to supporting projects that make a real difference, and our Community Grants Program is designed to empower local groups to create and action initiatives that strengthen community bonds.

“Last year, our Community Grants Program supported 28 not-for-profit groups, and I encourage our local groups to review the guidelines and submit an application.”

Councillor Russell Wantling echoed these sentiments, highlighting the fantastic opportunity the grants program offers for community groups to realise beneficial projects.

“Community groups make important contributions to the liveability of the Southern Downs but often operate on limited budgets,” Cr Wantling said.

“Council’s Community Grants Program offers a financial boost to help realise projects that provide positive outcomes for the community.”

The 2024/25 Community Grants Program is now open and will close on Friday, June 30, 2025.

However, the program may close sooner if all funding is fully allocated before the deadline.

Applications can be submitted through Smarty Grants, and forms and program guidelines are available on the council’s website.
