The local community came together to celebrate Rural Fire Service (RFS) Week with the official opening of the new Leslie Rural Fire Station on 3 August.

Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) staff and volunteers marked the occasion just in time for the upcoming bushfire season.

The new facility, a significant upgrade for the area, features a two-bay shed, training room, office space, kitchen, laundry, and bathrooms.

This comprehensive base of operations will enable local volunteer members to continue delivering a robust fire response.

RFSQ volunteers have been working tirelessly, preparing their communities for the bushfire season. Their dedication was recognised during the opening ceremony, where several volunteers received honours for their service.

The National Medal, along with first, second, and third clasps, were awarded to those who have consistently stepped up to help in emergencies over the years.

Additionally, three Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) Medals were presented to individuals demonstrating exceptional commitment to ethical and personal integrity.

The new Leslie Rural Fire Station shows the community’s resilience and the unwavering dedication of its volunteer firefighters, ensuring they are well-equipped to protect and serve during the critical months ahead.
