Police urge caution after emptied gun safe found near Killarney

Firearm owners have been advised to check their safes are secure after an empty gun safe was found dumped in the Condamine River near Killarney on Sunday.

Killarney police have launched investigations into the discovery which they said had been made by fishermen just off Bellingham Road at Elbow Valley on 11 August.

Upon retrieval, police said the safe appeared to have been forced open and its contents emptied.

Killarney Police Sergeant Bradley Doyle said police had not received any “recent reports of gun safe thefts [in] the area”.

Sergeant Doyle urged all firearm owners to “check the security of their safes”.

Police advised anyone with information about the safe to contact Killarney police station or crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
