The plant drive welcomes spring

Melaleuca alternifolia (Snow in summer).

Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes the much-anticipated annual plant drive organised by the Stanthorpe Agricultural Society.

This year’s drive aims to raise funds for the ongoing shearer’s stove upgrade project as well as the society’s 150th show celebrations planned for 2026.

Coordinator Paula Boatfield expressed excitement about this year’s selection, sourced from Mole River Native Nursery.

“This year, the selection is guaranteed to include some favourites, but we’ve also introduced a few species that we haven’t had before,“ Ms Boatfield said.

“Sarah [from the nursery] is very careful with her selection of plants to ensure they are suited to our climate.

“With some care and attention in their early weeks, these plants should bring you joy as they bloom year after year.“

Among the highlights of this year’s selection are the popular Wallangarra White Gum and Banksia integrifolia.

The catalogue also features the stunning waxflower Philotheca Winter Rouge, the abundantly flowering Baeckea virgata La Petite, and the striking 6-meter-tall Melaleuca alternifolia, also known as Snow-in-Summer.

Additionally, the selection includes a fabulous array of bottlebrushes and grevilleas, guaranteed to attract birds, butterflies, and bees to any native garden.

For those interested in participating, order forms and additional information can be found on the Society’s website at stanthorpeshowgrounds.com.au/fundraising.

Orders must be submitted by September 2, 2024. For more details, contact Paula Boatfield directly at 0428 195 202 or via email at pbboatfield@bigpond.com.
