Warwick’s dog owners and their four-legged friends are in for a treat as Southern Downs Regional Council invites the community to the grand opening of the brand-new dog off-leash area at Victoria Park on Sunday 1 September.

The event promises a day filled with tail-wagging excitement, games, demonstrations, a Springtime Pooch Parade, and an abundance of free goodies for all attendees.

Deputy Mayor Sheryl Windle expressed her enthusiasm for the new facility, highlighting its benefits to the community.

“This new dog off leash area is a haven for hounds and a fantastic addition to our community’s open spaces, providing a safe and controlled environment for our dogs to run, play and socialise,” Cr Windle said.

“Whether it’s chasing tennis balls, making new friends or simply enjoying the fresh air, the new off leash dog area at Victoria Park is the perfect pet-friendly park for Warwick’s dogs to safely run free.”

“A well-exercised dog is a happy dog, and this space helps ensure our pets are well-behaved members of the community.

The community’s enthusiasm and engagement for the new dog off-leash area has been invaluable in guiding the scope of the project, and I’d like to thank those who participated in the public consultation process and overwhelmingly endorsed Victoria Park as the preferred location.”

The event’s highlight will be the Springtime Pooch Parade, where dogs can compete in categories such as:

My Dog Has Talent (woofing/howling, fetching, catching, or performing tricks)

Matching Dad and Dog Father’s Day

Best Dressed Springtime Themed Dog

Best Dressed Dog Overall – Best in Show

“The Springtime Pooch Parade promises to be a lot of fun, and I look forward to seeing our region’s dogs all dressed up for the occasion,” Cr Windle added.

The grand finale is the Best Dressed Dog Overall – Best in Show award, and this prestigious title will go to the dog who steals the show with their impeccable style and charm.

Who will be crowned the top dog of the parade? You’ll have to be there to find out!

The new dog park has been designed with all dogs in mind, featuring three separate fenced areas to accommodate dogs of various sizes. It also includes amenities such as park benches, dog waste bins, and bags.

By providing a space where dogs can exercise, socialise, and engage with their environment, the off-leash area supports the well-being of both pets and their owners, encouraging a more responsible and informed approach to pet ownership.

Mark your calendars and bring your furry friends to celebrate this new addition to Warwick’s community.
