The Stanthorpe RSL Sub Branch and Women’s Auxiliary are set to welcome representatives from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) and Australian War Widows Queensland to Stanthorpe for a special meeting.

The event, aimed at current serving members, veterans, war widows, and their partners, will take place on Monday 9 September at 1.30pm at the Stanthorpe RSL Services Club.

The meeting offers a valuable opportunity for attendees to engage with key figures from the veteran community. War Widows Queensland President Judy Smith, alongside Wellbeing Program Manager Sue Hilditch, will speak about the organization’s mission and ongoing efforts to support war widows and their families. Additionally, Deborah Wheeler, the Warwick coordinator, along with members of the Warwick War Widows Social Group, will be available for one-on-one conversations with guests.

Australian War Widows Queensland, originally established to support women who lost their husbands in war, has since expanded its scope to include a broader community. The organization now serves war widows, widowers, and spouses of both ex-service members and currently serving veterans. The meeting will provide valuable insights into the support services and entitlements available, with the hope of fostering greater awareness and membership within the community.

“We encourage war widows, widowers, and partners of veterans to join us for an afternoon of learning, fun, and friendship,” a Stanthorpe RSL Sub Branch spokesperson said.

“Full and associate memberships are available, and we hope to see many new faces.”

Those interested in attending are kindly requested to RSVP by Friday, 6 September, by calling the Stanthorpe RSL Sub Branch at 07 4681 0047 or emailing admin@stanthorperslsubbranch.org
