The countdown has begun for one of Warwick’s most beloved traditions, the John Dee Warwick Rodeo Street Parade, which is set to return with a bang this year.

This iconic event, just as cherished as the Warwick Rodeo and Gold Cup Campdraft itself, is gearing up to take over Palmerin Street on 26 Saturday, October 2024, from 9.30am to 10.30am.

This year’s parade theme, “Boots and Blooms,” promises to be a vibrant celebration of Warwick’s rich rodeo heritage and its famous rose gardens.

Southern Downs Regional Council is now inviting community groups, sporting clubs, schools, and businesses to register a float in this family-friendly event.

Southern Downs Councillor Morwenna Harslett highlighted the significance of the street parade as a cornerstone of Warwick’s local calendar.

“Warwick is known for its rodeo and roses, so what better way to celebrate our community’s spirit than with a theme that combines these two iconic symbols?“ Cr Harslett said.

She added that the parade is a fantastic opportunity for participants to showcase their creativity and community pride.

“We can’t wait to see how participants bring Boots and Blooms to life with imaginative, colourful and show-stopping floats. It’s going to be a spectacular display of creativity and community pride!“

Councillor Harslett encouraged everyone to get involved, whether by creating elaborately decorated trucks or creatively themed cars, utes, and bikes.

“Whether you’re tipping your hat to Warwick’s cowboy culture or celebrating the city’s floral heritage, there’s no limit to how you can interpret this year’s theme,“ she said.

“With a little creativity and community spirit, you could create a float that not only dazzles the crowd but also takes home one of the big cash prizes.“

The parade offers $2,000 in prize money, with $500 awarded to winners in the following categories: Best in Theme – Boots and Blooms, Best School Exhibit, Best Business or Commercial Exhibit, and Best Club, Sport, or Other Organisation Exhibit.

Local community groups, sporting clubs, schools, and businesses are encouraged to participate. To enter, simply download the entry form from the Council’s website, and if you need assistance, the Economic Development Team is available to help at 1300 697 372 or edu@sdrc.qld.gov.au.
