The Warwick Dragway is set to host an exciting event on 14 September, as the V8 Street Gassers drag racing event makes its return.

The event will showcase a nostalgic era of drag racing, with cars designed to mimic the iconic hot rods of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. This unique spectacle will feature loud, fast, and visually striking cars, offering a thrilling experience for both motorsport enthusiasts and families alike.

Organiser of V8 Street Gassers QLD, Flamin’ Wayne said the V8 Street Gassers is a class of drag racing reminiscent of the grassroots racing of the past.

“Our cars are old-school hot rods, built with big motors and wheels to give a real show,“ Wayne explained.

“It’s like taking the excitement of a monster truck show and putting it into racing cars. People just run to the fence when they see these cars because you don’t see them often.“

This event is expected to draw a large crowd, with around 30 to 40 of these powerful machines roaring down the track. According to Wayne, Warwick Dragway has been a fantastic host, offering four meetings a year for the Street Gassers, and the event is growing in popularity with each appearance.

“We’re hoping for an even bigger turnout, especially since we’ll be doing a car display at Goodyear Tire Service the day before, on Friday, from 3 to 5pm,“ Wayne said.

“It’s a great chance for people to see these cars up close before the race.“

Flamin’ Wayne, who has a deep passion for cars and drag racing, is no stranger to the scene. He has been involved in hot rods and street racing for over 50 years, having previously run a Hot Rod Magazine.

Now, he’s bringing his expertise to the V8 Street Gassers and aiming to build the event into something even larger in the future.

“We’ve got big plans,“ Wayne shared. “We want to make this a must-go event in Warwick, with a mega car show and even more participation from car lovers across the region. The community support is key, and Warwick Dragway has been amazing, helping us bring this vision to life.“

The event promises an unforgettable day of racing, with the roar of engines, the smell of burning rubber, and the thrill of seeing these iconic vehicles in action.

For those looking to catch a glimpse of the cars before the race, don’t miss the display at Goodyear Tire Service, or come out to the Warwick Dragway on 14 September for a full day of adrenaline-pumping fun.
