How many aged care and medical centres in Australia can say they also run the local community pool?

Killarney’s can!

Next week Killarney Memorial will be opening the Killarney Community Swimming Pool for the season, with a three-year lease from the Southern Downs Regional Council.

CEO Sarah Fea said that they were looking forward to utilising the space for health and wellness activities for residents and the community.

“As well as the usual learn-to-swim, club nights, squad and other aquatic programs, in time we are hoping to hold some other fitness programs at the site.”

“We will be trialling opening the pool for a longer time period as well,” she said.

“Just go to the Killarney Community Swimming Pool Facebook page for updates.”

Sarah said Killarney Memorial had evolved from being singularly an age care provider to a true community hub.

“We are one of Australia’s few remaining regional community-owned, not-for-profit health, community, and ageing centres,” she said.

“We run a 60-bed residential aged care service, home care and NDIS services, the local medical centre with GPs and allied health professionals; as well as a Meals on Wheels service, a Men’s Shed and a local home maintenance service.”

“Local people trust us to deliver these services, and they know it will be a friendly and familiar face looking after them – whether it’s in the doctor’s surgery, delivering Meals on Wheels or in aged care,” Sarah said.

“Run by locals, for locals, we are dedicated to providing health and wellbeing services that people don’t need to leave town for.”
