Authorities are investigating the death of a motocross rider at Tregony’s popular Gap Creek Moto track on Saturday.
Emergency services were called to the track, located just west of Cunningham’s Gap, after reports a male rider, aged in his 50s, had come off a motorcycle at about 11.25am on 14 September.
Three ambulance units and a helicopter were tasked to the incident, a Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said. Paramedics treated the man for life threatening injuries at the scene but he could not be saved.
A Queensland Police spokesman said the death was “sudden and non-suspicious”. The spokesman said officers will prepare a report for the coroner while forensic crash investigators had begun investigating the incident.
The Gap Creek Moto track is a privately owned motocross and camping facility located just off the Cunningham Highway. The facility is home to two seniors, two juniors and one mixed motocross track.
Track rules stipulate that full riding gear is mandatory on all tracks with helmets and shoes to be worn at all times.
In a post to Facebook on Saturday afternoon, Gap Creek Moto reported the facility would be “closed for the rest of the weekend”.
Gap Creek Moto were contacted for further comment.
