Yangan State School celebrated a significant milestone on Saturday, marking 150 years of educational excellence and community spirit.

The celebration, brought together past students, staff, dignitaries, and members of the Yangan community to honour the school’s rich history and its contributions to the region.

In his opening remarks, Principal Steven Grogan expressed his pride in leading the school during this momentous occasion.

“It’s a milestone that fills us with pride and gratitude,“ he said.

“Yangan currently has just over 40 students, four teachers, including myself as a teaching principal, and a dedicated team that makes this school thrive.“

The school has fostered a long history of deep connection to the local community.

“From the local businesses who generously support us to the families who entrust us with their children’s education, your unwavering commitment fuels our success,” Mr Grogan said.

Mr Grogan also noted the remarkable changes in education over the past 25 years, with modern technologies now part of everyday learning at the school.

“I’m sure many of you are looking around today going, ‘Oh my goodness!’ – air-conditioned buildings, cutting-edge technologies, 3D printers, and robots roaming the school,“ he said, adding that while progress is essential, the timeless values of community, resilience, and academic excellence continue to guide the school.

The day was filled with activities and events, from art exhibitions to culinary delights, showcasing the hard work and creativity of students, staff, and the broader community.

“We’ve had some unbelievable efforts over the last few weeks, from shifting bark to baking with our students and contributing to an outstanding recipe book,“ Mr Grogan said.

As the celebrations continued with a banner and a commemorative book, Mr Grogan looked to the future with optimism, vowing to carry forward the legacy of Yangan.

“Together, we will continue to nurture and inspire future generations, ensuring Yangan School remains a beacon of excellence for another 150 years,“ he said.

The day was a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy of Yangan State School, and a reminder of the community’s deep connection to its history and future.
