Police officers who have died in the line of duty were honoured across the country on National Police Remembrance Day, with Warwick holding its own heartfelt ceremony.

The service, held at St Mary’s Catholic Church, brought together community members, past and present emergency service personnel, and families to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Acting Inspector Gerard Brady, of the Warwick Patrol, spoke about the importance of the day, emphasising the dedication, integrity, respect, courage, and commitment of the fallen officers.

“My thoughts are especially with the friends and family of these officers today,” A/Insp Brady said. “It is my hope that you will continue to feel the support and comfort of the blue family, a family that you will always be a part of.”

This year, the Queensland Police Service recognised Senior Sergeant Brendan Wiblen, who tragically died earlier this month during the Wall to Wall Ride charity event. The remembrance also honoured Senior Constable David Masters, Constable Matthew Arnold, and Constable Rachel McCrow, who lost their lives in recent service.

Queensland Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said on National Police Remembrance Day we pause to reflect and remember the police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while demonstrating their unwavering dedication to keeping our communities safe.

“In the 160 year history of the Queensland police, we’ve tragically lost 150 members,” Mr Gollschewski said.

“Today we stand in solidarity as a blue family to ensure the legacy of our fallen officers in Queensland and across the state never fades.

“I recognise the profound impact of recent deaths of Constables Rachel McCrow, Matthew Arnold and Senior Constable Dave Masters has had on our organisation, their family and friends, and community.

“With Honour They Served”

The services and marches held statewide provided a time for reflection on the courage and sacrifice demonstrated by those who have died in the line of duty.

Each year National Police Remembrance Day serves as a reminder of the commitment and dedication of police officers to protecting and serving their community.
