Collaborative efforts boost region’s small business resilience

Working together to better the businesses of the region.

Southern Downs Regional Council has secured $160,000 in vital grant funding from the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) as part of the Queensland Government’s Locally Led Economic Recovery (LLER) project to drive a comprehensive support program aimed at strengthening small businesses across the region.

In collaboration with the Warwick Chamber of Commerce and the Stanthorpe & Granite Belt Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Resilience Suite initiative will deliver a range of targeted programs designed to boost local businesses’ ability to thrive in an increasingly challenging economic landscape.

The suite includes a revitalised Shop Local campaign, the launch of a Small Business Knowledge program, significant upgrades to the Southern Downs and Granite Belt App, and a brand-new community event — the Country Spring Fair which will be held in Warwick’s Leslie Park on Saturday 5 October 2024.

This initiative is supported by the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Southern Downs mayor Melissa Hamilton welcomed the initiative and the positive impact it would have on the region’s local economy.

“The Small Business Resilience Suite is not only about helping businesses recover from tough times but setting them up for long-term success,” Cr Hamilton said.

“The collaboration between Council and the Chambers of Commerce is a prime example of how we can unite and work together to strengthen our local economy.“

Stanthorpe & Granite Belt Chamber of Commerce president Michelle Feenan said the partnership highlighted the two chambers shared vision for the prosperity and growth for the region.

“This funding allows us to provide direct, practical support to our small business community,” Ms Feenan said.

“By working with Council and the Warwick Chamber, we’re giving our local businesses the tools and knowledge they need to grow and succeed.“

Warwick Chamber of Commerce president Mark Celledoni expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its importance for local businesses.

“This initiative is a game changer for our small business community,” Mr Celledoni said.

“The resources and support being offered will give businesses the resilience and confidence they need to navigate challenging times.

“Working alongside the Stanthorpe & Granite Belt Chamber and Council ensures a unified approach to fostering growth and innovation across the Southern Downs.”

The Small Business Resilience Suite is set to deliver wide-reaching benefits, promoting economic resilience through innovation, improved business skills, and greater digital visibility for local enterprises. The region-wide campaign and enhanced digital platforms will also provide critical support to tourism and other key industries.
