50 years on and growing stronger

Celebrating 50 years. (supplied)

The Potters’ are celebrating 50 years this Saturday, 19th October with an Open Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Members, present and past, and friends of the Potters’ are asked to join with them at the club house where they will honour four new life member with a presentation starting at 12 noon. The gallery will be open and they are looking forward to showing one and all the facilities that they have to offer.

It all started with a hand – the hand of friendship extended in greeting, the hand that adds that pinch of kindness when mixing, and the hand that turns a lump of clay into a unique piece of pottery. The saying ‘from little things, big things grow’ holds true for the Warwick Potters’ Association, which has flourished since its formation fifty years ago, growing into the vibrant club it is today.

Pottery has been around for centuries, and each year brings something new and appealing that shifts the direction of this timeless art. People of all ages have been drawn to pottery over the years, and there has likely never been a time when we haven‘t thought about giving it a try ourselves. Pottery is a craft for everyone – age is no barrier. All you need is an open mind and a willingness to try, and you can bring your creative vision to life. So why not take up the challenge and visit the Warwick Potters’ Place to see if pottery appeals to you?

The club offers beginners classes in both hand building and wheel throwing, with evening courses available. You can take a couple of trial sessions to see if pottery is the right fit for you. If you enjoy it, we encourage you to become a member and continue your journey – a journey filled with challenges, mishaps, and ultimately the satisfaction of creating a piece you’re proud of. Our members participate on a daily or weekly basic, with sessions available Thursday nights, Saturday morning, and Sunday afternoons for those with full-time jobs.

Membership grants access to all club facilities and the support of fellow potters. Our members are always happy to share their hard-earned knowledge with newcomers and offer advice to help you along your pottery journey.

For more information about the club visit www.potters.org.au to see what we offer and view the work of our talented members.

The Potters’ will have on the day a once only Commemorative Rae of pottery memorabilia marking their 50th. Tickets are $1.00 each and if you are unable to attend on the day, but would like a part of pottery history, tickets can be purchased prior by doing a direct debit to Warwick Credit Union BSB 817-001, account number 400389897 with your name and contact details.
