Livestock agent ROSS ELLIS of McDougall and Sons brings us an update on the local lamb and cattle markets from last week…

Cattle numbers fell, lamb numbers rose, and pork and poultry numbers remained consistent across the week.

The values for the major markets species were down with the poultry and pork keeping firm to a shade dearer in sections.

The marketing may seem to flow for the next few weeks as the major processors are still to reopen to their full potential.

Warwick is lucky in some aspects as we do have a high number of mid-term processors operating as well as good back-to-the-paddock players.

McDougall and Sons sheep and lamb report

Agents today yarded 1322 head to the weekly sale to meet a large shortfall in the major purchasers with only the local butchers, processors and restockers looking to buy.

The Agents didn’t have to use much ink recording the prices as many didn’t fall into the three-digit columns for recording prices.

The auctioneers voices were stressed trying to elicit bids from the public.
