Former Cowboy shines as a Devil

Former Cowboy Dan Murphy is making his mark as halfback and captain for the Norths’ Devils in the FOGS Colts Challenge Cup.  In a nail-biting finish worthy of any grand final, the Devils defeated Tweed Heads Seagulls 26-22 at Suncorp Stadium. The game was one of the curtain raisers to the Intrust Super Cup (State League) grand final. The Devils prevailed after the game was forced into extra time, when the scores were locked up at 22-all at full time.
In extra time, a deft 40/20 kick from Murphy took play deep into Seagulls’ territory and, several plays later, the Devils crossed to claim a try and the 2011 premiership. It was the culmination of a successful season for the former Cowboy who played every game this season after a disappointing run of injuries and a shoulder reconstruction saw him sidelined for much of the 2010 season. Murphy is not the only former Cowboy in the Devils’ lair. Playing alongside Murphy is Dylan Galloway. Unfortunately Galloway missed the grand final due to injury but was a big part of the side’s success throughout the season. Also at the Devils is Ben Sullivan, who came off the bench for Norths in the main game, the Intrust Super Cup Grand final. Wynum Manly took out the final 32-18 after losing the first six games of the 2011 season.
All three former Warwick players look to have bright futures in rugby league and are proudly flying the Warwick flag.  Murphy and Galloway are contracted to the Broncos feeder club, Norths, for another season, while Sullivan is expected to be offered an extension to his contract.
