Gold medal winners decided

The Stanthorpe 2018 Golf Medal of Medallists competition was decided on Saturday. Winners of the Men’s and Ladies Monthly Medal from throughout the year played for the “Gold Medal” Trophy and title of Medal of Medallists.

After an extraordinary round of 77 Gross, Nett 65 Junior golfer Billy Webb added the Roy Carnell Trophy to his list of achievements this season.

The talented youngster has also just earned his promotion to A Grade.

The result was not quite as clear cut in the Ladies competition. In an exciting finish Neta Thouard and Kay Webb each returned a nett score of 77.

After a tense count back it was Neta Thouard who was declared the winner of the event sponsored by Tom and Trish Fittock.

The November monthly medal was also held on the day, and as winners of the November Medal Stroke event both Webb and Thouard are the first qualifiers for the 2019 Medal of Medallists event

The Runners up were Bill Pyne with nett 67 and Kay Webb with nett 70. Mark Hendry returned the best Gross (75) in the Men’s event and Neta Thouard (95) in the Ladies. Putting honours went to Billy Webb and Mark Hendry with 26 putts and Kay Webb led the Ladies with 28 putts.

Greenkeeper Bill Pyne, read the green well at three holding the pin shot. Aaron Simmers claimed the pin at 12 and Trevor Ludlow held 17. Matt Waterworth held the pro-pin at 1/10, Hayden Smith at 5/14 and Mike McAuliffe at 9/18. Lorraine Evans had best ladies’ approach at 17.In the run downs; it was a ball to scores of nett 70 and better.

The monthly medal event was sponsored by long-time supporters of the Stanthorpe Golf Club, Howard and Adele Poole of Poole’s Produce.

This Saturday players will be hoping for a reprieve from the very hot conditions as they head out to play a mixed 4BBB Stableford for the Peirce Trophy sponsored by the Peirce family.

Tee off from 11.30 am and time sheet is on the board. A 4BBB Stableford will be held for any players, who do not have a playing partner.
