Cloud over club activities

Activities at the Stanthorpe Bowls Club have been clouded this week by news that one of the members, Gordon Gallaway, passed away suddenly after a short illness.

Activities at the Stanthorpe Bowls Club have been clouded this week by news that one of the members, Gordon Gallaway, passed away suddenly after a short illness.

Gordon moved to Stanthorpe to live with relatives and took up bowling, finding his niche at the Stanthorpe Bowls Club.

He enjoyed the game and was very much an improving bowler.

He will be sadly missed the members of the club and the many friends he made in the community.

The Stanthorpe Bowlers along with the Spin team extend their condolences to his family and friends.

As if in keeping with the mood around the club this past week, mid-week bowls was cancelled due to inclement weather.

As the rain eased on Friday night allowing games to be played on Saturday.

Two games of three bowl triples and one game of three bowl pairs were played. In

the first of the triples games, Val White, Robyn Rose and Gary Trevena were too

strong for Helen Jones, Rocky Thompson, and David Rose scoring a 25-15 win.

Ray Rankin, Ernie Jones, and Brian Brown held the line finishing ahead of Jimmy Ringer, Tom Hodgson and Mark Wicks.

The score 16-12.

The pairs game proved a triumph for Louisa Girgenti and Peter Smith who scored a 22-16 win over Robyn Smith and Dot Rankin.

A reminder to members and visiting bowlers that the Stanthorpe Club carnival gets under way this Sunday, 10 October (Covid permitting).

Spectators are most welcome to come and check out the action on the green. Stanthorpe Bowls Club, Amosfield Road, Stanthorpe.
