A new-look Warwick District Cricket Association executive committee is preparing for a big year following its AGM on Monday.

The 2021/22 President Andrew Bryson has returned for another season at the helm however he has been joined on the executive team by vice president Stewart Henderson, secretary Joe Morris and treasurer Katrina Walker with Jo Bryant continuing her involvement with Junior Cricket as President of the Junior Association.

Bryson said junior cricket and all senior clubs were well represented at the meeting with everyone preparing for the start of the season at the end of September.

“I will be working hard along with the committee to ensure there is another strong season of competition in Warwick,” Bryson said

“The season is scheduled to begin on 24 September.”

Bryson is also looking forward to the Day/Night Mitchell shield game against Stanthorpe in November and flagged some changes to the Australia Day Carnival Social Competition to give teams involved “more bang for their buck.”

In preparation for the junior season, Bryson said there would be a free Coaching clinic at Slade Oval on Saturday, 17 September.

The Clinic will be run in conjunction with Nudgee College, Brisbane and will be facilitated by four notable cricket coaches associated with the College.

Tim Lang heads the coaching line up. A former NSW and SA first class cricketer, Lane is Director of cricket at Nudgee College.

He will be joined by Terry Oliver a former Bulls player and Sheffield Shield winner who currently coaches the Nudgee First XI and Justin Sternes a former Qld Bulls and Brisbane Heat assistant coach.

Sternes is currently Head Coach at Nudgee.

Bryson said these are three extremely well qualified, each CA level three high performance coaches. Trent Palmer the final member of the Coaching group currently plays first grade cricket for Toombul. He is a CA Level two coach and is assistant to Oliver at Nudgee.

He said this is “an outstanding opportunity for junior cricketers who will undertake a skills clinic and some centre wicket practice”.

The clinic will run from 9.30am – 1.30am.

Bryson said following the coaching clinic the Warwick Davis Shield Team will play a 40 over against the Nudgee 1st XI.
