Weather is set to play a major role as cricket season hits off across Warwick this weekend.

Preparation is underway for the 2022/23 Warwick Cricket Association season which opens this weekend with Stanthorpe tentatively due to start on 8 October.

Warwick Cricket Association President Andrew Bryson said weather will play a big part in the opening round of the season.

“I am unable to confirm how wet the various grounds still are at this stage,” he said.

“There is at least 20mm of rain forecast during the week. That would make it very difficult for us to play the opening round.”

It is anticipated once again this season that games will again be played on both Saturday and Sunday.

The opening round draw sees Maryvale play Sovereign Animals. Allora will play Vic hill in the second game on Saturday.

On Sunday Wheatvale play Colts while Redbacks have a bye.

Ground allocations will be confirmed later in the week.

The Association President sends a strong reminder to all clubs regarding player registrations. All players must be registered prior to taking the field.

Any team playing an unregistered team will automatically forfeit any points from the match.

Speaking with a representative of the Stanthorpe and District Cricket Association earlier in the week, it looks likely that their 2022 season will begin on Saturday 8 October. Early indications are that the competition will have a similar number of teams as last season

Much like their Warwick counterparts , Stanthorpe players will also need to be registered before they play.
