The Spin

Casey O'Connor.

I am sleep deprived and proud to be an Aussie. It certainly has been don’t quite a week for sports lovers. I have also learned some new skills – finding obscure Television channels just as what you are watching suddenly disappears to be replaced by something you really want to know about, eg the latest news or the highlight reel of the Canberra Bubble and Albo and crew. Give me the T20 cricket any day. So much for the Commonwealth games being Live and Free on TV. Surely, I am not the only one having trouble keeping up.

I did manage to master the streaming to catch Charlotte Caslick and the girls winning gold. Redemption for their Silver in 2018 at the Gold Coast. Charlotte finished that game with a severe concussion and in this game was sin-binned seconds before full time with the game and gold safely in the Aussie’s keeping.

There is a very large Stanthorpe contingent in Birmingham and I understand from Don Caslick that the celebrations have been long and ongoing.

With the swimming winding down it’s time to catch the T 20; the Netball (look out for Jamacia was Laura Geitz’s tip) and the athletics.

The Comm Games have interrupted my NRL viewing. Not that that is a bad thing after what happened to the Broncos last weekend. Penrith looks to be in all sorts of trouble after Nathan Cleary’s brain snap last round. It just adds another level of drama to the Penrith side already missing some key players. This might just disrupt their back-to-back Premiership hopes.

The drama last week around the Sea Eagles jersey – but next year everyone’s going to be A-Ok with it. A bit too much for me and plenty of others to process. Just play rugby league, please.

The Storm is not at its ravishing best but will be hanging in there as they do.

The Roosters and Raiders are peaking in time to make a run for the finals and the Cowboys are simply flying.

There is still plenty of noise around coaching changes. I feel for Jason Holbrook – I can’t see coaching as the Titans’ issue more than “you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear” as the saying goes.

It was good was it to see one of the top blokes in rugby league, Noddy Kimmorley gets his maiden win as a coach on the weekend. Good things sometimes happen to good people.

With only a few of rounds to go before we move up a notch to NRL finals, the top eight is far from decided and it will be interesting to see how the Snakes and Ladders of NRL form finish.

In the meantime, there are more gold medals to be won so it’s back to the TV and black coffee. There is no bunker to annoy me – but wait I reckon there have been a few dodgy reviews even at the Games ###technology.

Damm remote, damn TV Channels.
