Come and try softball

Softball has been played intermittently over the years in Stanthorpe and Warwick but at present there is no local competition for those who may be interested in the sport.

There is however a tried-and-true pathway for juniors interested in the sport and that is through the Toowoomba Softball Association.

The 2022/23 season is about to begin and the Association and Toowoomba clubs are calling on junior players or interested juniors to join the sport.

A Come and Try day is being held next Sunday (9 October) at the Kearney’s Spring Sport Complex on the Cnr Ruthven and Spring Streets in Toowoomba. All softball games throughout the season are played at this facility.

Officials from Toowoomba Softball say that all clubs have positions to fill in under 8’s, 10’s, 12’s, 14’s, and under 17’s,

Softball is a game which can open many doors for players.

Former student of St Mary’s and Assumption college, Joelle Natividad began playing softball when she was in Year 5. She is proof of the positive impact the game can have on someone who began playing as a youngster.

The game took Joelle to the USA where she played college softball while studying for her Bachelor of Science – Sociology at University.

Joelle has now returned to Australia and this season will be involved in coaching the Under 16 Dodgers team in the Toowoomba competition this season.

As well as the Come and Try Day, a Softball Super Series is being played on Sunday. It will give any interested juniors a chance to see great softball being played.
