Cricketers hope for clear skies

Junior Cricketers in Stanthorpe brushed aside the cold and wet conditions and enjoyed thier time working with Joel Bock and Morne Vd Mwere from Queensland Cricket on Saturday morning.

Cricket fixtures across the Southern Downs took a battering at the weekend due to the wet weather.

Stanthorpe Cricket Association President Tim Harslett confirmed that the two games cancelled

at the weekend will officially be declared washouts and will not be slotted into the remaining

competition.

This weekend’s fixtures should see Wanderers playing Souths and Valleys taking on RSL.

“Depending on the state of the fields especially Sheahan Oval we have a couple of

Options,” Harslett said.

“Hopefully both Sheahan Oval and the CF White are good to go in which case we will eb

playing two 40 over games.

“If Sheahan is still too wet to play on, both games will be played on CF White turf.

“If this is the case then we will convene a quick meeting to confirm the changes and it

may mean both games are only 35 over games.

“It would also mean that the second game will be played mostly under lights.”

In Warwick it was a similar scenario. Contingency plans to move games to more all-weather grounds

were scrapped as the weather deteriorated on Saturday and all scheduled games were cancelled.

Andrew Bryson, Warwick President confirmed the games will not be rescheduled.

There are no fixtures this weekend in Warwick due to the Warwick Rodeo. President Andrew Bryson

said another inch of rain on Monday night was not helpful however the Association was hopeful

conditions will have improved by the time fixtures recommence on 5 November.

“The pitches are not too bad, but the fields are simply waterlogged,” Bryson said earlier in the week.

Warwick Junior cricket suffered the same fate with water pooled at the nets and on the fields

causing cancellations. Sunday’s representative trials in Gatton were also affected.

Some of Stanthorpe youngest Juniors were more fortunate than most. There was just time to sneak

in a Blasters session before the rain returned on Saturday morning.

Two guests from Queensland Cricket were very welcome guests Saturday morning. Although it was

cold and wet the littlest members of junior cricket loved the time spent working with Joel Bock and

Morne Vd Mwere.
