Warwick golfers were left with heavy hearts this past week as the news of the passing of Don Warrerner filtered through their ranks.

Garry Hanson from Warwick Sporters echoed the feelings of many.

“It is with a heavy heart that I send you news that on Tuesday 18 October we lost the much loved, larger than life, Don Warrener,” he emailed.

“Don spent many, many, hours volunteering at the Warwick Golf Club every week

mowing greens, fairways, light rough on both sides of the fence and in general helped keep the course in pristine condition.

“We will miss his raucous laugh, that on the course could be heard from across many fairways.

“In the Clubhouse it could be heard from the carpark and it was very infectious once you were inside”.

Don and partner Joely Singleton made an early return from the Outback Masters Golf only a few months ago after Don contracted Covid.

When his recovery did go as expected, Doctors put it down to side effects of Covid, perhaps even long Covid.

Blood tests a short time later revealed the Prostrate Cancer Don had been dealing with for several years had returned.

Don had been diagnosed with Prostate cancer some years ago and had been an advocate for the disease and men’s health ever since.

Sadly, Don Warrener lost his battle with the disease last week. His life was celebrated at his funeral in Warwick on Wednesday.

The Spin team join the Warwick Golfing community in offering our deepest sympathy to Don’s partner Joely Singleton and his family at this difficult time.

Rest in Peace, Don, you will be sorely missed.
