LYONS SHOWS GOOD FORM IN CONDITIONS

While some of the regular players looked on from the comfort and warmth of the Warwick Club house Anne Lyons went about her business on the golf course last Saturday. Conditions were not an issue as Lyons blitzed the field in the Women’s Single Stableford competition. The Ladies played 18/9 holes on the White course. It was a great effort on the rain effected course and I think it is safe to tag Anne as a Mudlark. Her performance on the heavy track will be noted in the form guide for future reference.

Lyons was the overall winner with a score of 37 points. Filling the placings behind Anne were Gwen Mills (32); Judy Lester (31); and Patricia Roberts (28).

Gwen Mills held the Pro Pin at 16.

The ladies will be hoping for better conditions on Sunday for the Ellie Jay legacy day. The format is Four Ball Ambrose.

The day will conclude with raffles and there will be plenty of prizes. Proceeds of the day will go towards the purchase of a new monitor for high-risk babies at the Warwick Hospital.

It is sure to be a fun day for such a worthy cause so put together your team and have some fun.

MEN BRUSH ASIDE CONDITIONS

Members of the Warwick Golf Club brushed aside the conditions last Saturday and played a Single Stableford competition sponsored by Greg and Maria Carey.

Despite the elements Chas Longey finished well ahead of the field returning a very creditable 41 points to claim the winner’s voucher. Runner up, but not before a countback was Sean Haynes (36).

Following the countback Michael Watt and Morgan Gilchrist (36) were relegated to the run down

Along with John Brandon (34 c/b).

At the Pro Pin on 13, Bailey Ellis was pleased to pick up $15 while Jamie Ollerton and John Brandon also collected cash.

David Walker was NTP at five; Josh Manwaring at seven; Troy Alsford at nine and Daniel Bowles was on song at 11 and 16

On Friday the men were able to play the Red Rooster Front nine competition despite the weather. The overall winner of the Stableford competition was Ted King (20 points) who collected the bulk of the cash on offer. Also, in the placings and prize money were Josh Manwaring (19) and Wayne Walters (18 c/b)

Collecting a Red Rooster Chook for their efforts Geoff Hinze was NTP at five and James Jerome at seven.

SOCIAL BOWLS DISRUPTED

Rain resulted in the cancellation of social bowls at the Warwick East Club on Saturday. With the expected easing in weather conditions the monthly pairs will be played today. Start time is 10am.

RAIN DIDN’T DAMPEN FARWELL

The rain on Saturday did not dampen the farewell members of the Southern Cross Bowls Club held for popular members Rob and Thea Francis. The pair are up and off to Cairns.

It has been suggested that when Rob and Thea pack it would be an excellent idea if they packed some of the rain and took it with them.

The new Warwick Rodeo Princess, Kirrilly Roche was kind enough to ride in and thank the club for supporting her recent fund raiser. Her Mother, aka “The Princess Maker” was in fine form as backup, taking plenty of photos of the occasion.

A good crowd showed up Saturday and even managed to get some bowls down in between the showers. Some of the visitors enjoyed it so much, they put their hands up to join the club. Did the delicious sausage sizzle seal the deal. I guess we will never know.

Good luck to Rob and Thea who will be a little closer to a casino and a little bit of poker.

The Cairns bowls clubs will most certainly be the winners when this pair hit the green.

Members wish them both all the best. They will sadly missed by everyone at the Cross; especially by those fond of Thea’s cakes and slices.

Next Sunday (30 October), Social Mixed Bowls begin at 1pm. Please be at the club by 12.30pm. Everyone is welcome. Contact Clark on 0427 673 277.
