Champion teenage Darts player Jack Spencer is throwing everything into his fund-raising efforts in his quest to attend the upcoming World Darts Championship in Assen, Netherlands in December and he has received plenty of support from the Stanthorpe public.

“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support we have received from the people of Stanthorpe,” Jack said.

Those thoughts echoed by his mother Lynne and father Rod who are with him every step of the way with his fundraising activities.

Since beginning his fundraising, Jack has developed a new talent, cooking sausages and on Saturday he was busy turning sausages at yet another sausage sizzle, this one at Spanos IGA.

During the morning Ray from Sommerville Valley Tourist Park and Resort donated a generous cheque to help Jack get to Assen.

Ray said he recognised the young man’s talent and was keen to help Jack realise his dream to play overseas against boys his age.

The various competitions in the Netherlands include the World Masters Boy Singles, Boys Singles World Open, Boys World Championship Qualifier.

The public are right behind Jack following his selection in the squad of 10 to attend the World Championship event in December.

While busy fundraising, Jack and his family have been pleasantly surprised by the level of interest in Darts and in particular his forthcoming trip.

“Where exactly will you be playing; How many awards have you won; How long have you been playing competitively; What is your current Queensland ranking,” are some of the questions the teenager is becoming accustomed to answering. More than a few have also shared their best tourist destinations in case Jack gets any down time on his trip.

On Saturday, 19 November Jack and his family hope to see a big crowd at the Central Hotel for an afternoon of darts and pool.

There will be a multi draw raffle, Pot Luck doubles darts, live music, a pool competition and much more.
