BACK TO BUSINESS ON STANTHORPE GREEN

With the return or arrival (a little confused) of spring weather conditions bowlers from the Stanthorpe bowls club were able to enjoy social bowling.

On Wednesday (9/11), Sylean Fairley, Greg Hammond and Brian Brown played Dot Rankin, John Graham and Jack Bell. Skipped by Brian Brown, the trio defeated their opponents 22-16 in a tough contest.

In the second game of three bowl triples Poly Lay John Fairley and Gazza Trevena outscored Helen Jones Ray Rankin and Mark Wicks 22-17.

Members were back on the green on Saturday for more Social bowls. Poly Lane joined Mark Wicks and Brian Brown in a game against Helen Jones Greg Hammond and Gazza Trevena. The team skipped by Brian Brown proved too strong winning 15-11. Len Girgenti Tom Hodgson and Frank Gallo proved too slick for L Girgenti Jack Bell and Wendy Hurnall and scored a 15-10 win.

The B Grade Mixed final and A Grade Men’s and the Men’s Veterans Finals are some of the events scheduled for the remainder of November and December. Members are reminded that volunteers will be needed to run these events.

The popular Twilight Bowls at the Stanthorpe Club will start again on Thursday 17 November. Play gets begins at 6.30pm to register for a game please call the club between 5.30 and 6pm or simply be at the club no later than 6pm to nominate your team. Bowlers and non-bowlers are invited enjoy the fun. Don’t have a team of three and wish to play? – no worries. You will be assigned to a team.

Don’t have bowls ? – simply wear flat shoes and bowls can be provided.

Children must be over 12 years old to play.

CROSS BOWLERS GO PLUNDERING

The men and women from the Southern Cross Bowls Club just love visiting other clubs during their Carnivals and special events and sneaking off with the booty.

They were at it again at the weekend taking out the main prize at the Warwick East Open Fours Carnival last Sunday.

The winning team this week, Kim Hankinson, Clark Davidson, Dave Scotney and Barry Ziebell. Liam Holland, Wayne and Julie Foster and Merrylea Wilson were another team from the Cross who collected some booty after taking the honours in the first round.

It is back to headquarters for the South Cross pickpockets this weekend. On Saturday (19/11) the club will host an afternoon of social bowls which begins at 1pm. Everyone is welcome including beginners and all other bowlers. Free coaching is available (see Wayne or Geoff).

A reminder to all members and other bowlers that the Southern Cross Club will be hosting the District Two Bowls Mixed Triples championship on Saturday and Sunday (26 and 27 November)

NO JACKPOT FOR IN-FORM WINNERS

The Warwick Bowls club held a Jackpot Bowls day on Wednesday (9/11). Up for grabs was the club’s $50 jackpot.

In the opening round Pamela Kerr and Brian Black defeated David ter Hedde and Ross Price +10 -10.

Max Balfour and Max Holder had a narrow win over Faye Flint and Ken Hayes +2 -2.

Darryl Phillips and Russell Bean proved to string for Pat Seipelt and John Ruhle – scores +12. -12;

In the second round Pamela Kerr and Brian Black were again in good touch defeating Darryl Phillips and Russell Bean (+6 -6).

Max Balfour and Max Holder also scored another win. They beat Pat Seipelt and John Ruhle +2. -2.

David ter Hedde and Ross Price turned their form around and defeated Faye Flint and Ken Hayes +3. -3.

After the two round the scores looked like this:-

The Jack Pot once again went begging. The inform pair of Pamela Kerr and Brian Black settling for Pizza’s courtesy of sponsors the Pizza Hut.

The Condamine Sports Club sponsored an afternoon of bowls at the club last Saturday. Conditions of play were revealed to the 18 bowlers and the target was – “Highest number of ends won”.

Jack, Michael Dungey and Max Balfour scored a 20-15 win in their opening game against Ann Whitfield, Pat Seipelt and Bill Lee 20-15 (10 ends each team).

Trish Owens, Darryl Phillips and Max Holder also had a comfortable 18-13 win over David ter Hedde 18-13 (11 to nine Ends).

Pamela Kerr, Faye Flint and Edwin Welsh scored a comfortable win over Paul, Richard Tartan. The final score after both teams played 10 ends was 26-18 (10 Ends each).

Trish Owens, Darryl Phillips and Max Holder were declared the winners having won 11 ends and walked away with won the Condamine Meal Vouchers. Thanks to the Condamine Sports Club for their support.

The club is expecting around 40 people at their Christmas party at the Condy Club this evening (17/11). We will be expecting the hijinks from the Condy.

TWO DISPLINES ON DISPLAY

Stanthorpe Mallet players enjoyed vastly improved conditions last week although only two disciplines were played.

The Tuesday group played their usual games of Association Croquet. Jenny Tunbridge has acquired years of experience and a strong understanding of the strategy required to be successful in this discipline. Those attributes were all display on Tuesday as she took on Joy Newman and Sharyn Roser.

After some early inaccurate hitting from Roser, allowed Tunbridge to get away to a good lead which she was able to maintain throughout the game. Tunbridge went on to score two runs of two and a peel and pegging out with 26. Newman played well throughout and Roser contributed one peel to the pair’s final score of 19.

The Gateball players were on the court on Friday. Les Williams and Jenny Tunbridge teamed up to play the White balls in the opening two games against Joy Newman, Sharon Budd and Sharyn Roser playing Red balls. In the first game the White team took early control of hoop two while the Red team had early control of hoop three making for a close game. Budd played very accurately and helped keep the scores close. At the end of the game, it was Whites with their nose in front score a 12-10 win which included one Agari.

In the next game the White team struggled with distance and hit own balls out. Reds had some success sparking the White balls out of play and it led to another close game. Honours went to the Red team with a final score of 10-8.

In the final two games Williams and Tunbridge playing changed to Red balls as Newman and Roser took over the White balls.

It was Newman and Roser who struggled with distance in this game sending several of their own balls out of bounds allowing Red and early lead and control of hoops two and three. They tightened the screws and scored a decisive 13-7 win which included one Agari.

In the final game the pendulum swing and the Red team hit a few of their balls out of play. Newman was able to clinch the win for on the last shot with some accurate play at hoop three, sparking one ball through, sending her own ball through and finally scoring Agari. The score in the final game of the morning 11-6 in favour of Newman and Roser.

WARWICK CROQUET RESULTS

The Warwick Croquet players also reported that they enjoyed the ideal conditions the change in weather provided last week.

A small group of players were on the lawn on Tuesday (8/11) playing Association games.

Tony Hinde and Lesley Grayson scored a 12-10 win in their game against Peter Campbell.

Bob Burt and Dorothy Grayson played an interesting 20all draw with Trish Davey and Julie Grayson while Jill Birtwistle defeated E’Lane Burt 20 – 15.

Last Thursday, the Golf Croquet were in action in larger numbers.

Rhyl Dearden and Helen Dooley revelled in the conditions, and each scoring a hole in One during the course of play.

WARWICK EAST CEELBRATE SUCCSSFUL CARNIVAL

The Warwick East Bowls Club has had to their fair share of issues to deal with in recent months. Scheduled work on the green was affected by the ongoing wet weather and play was disrupted for several weeks. Those hiccups were a long way from the thoughts of members last Sunday as the club hosted a very successful Fours Bowls Carnival. The green was at capacity with 16 teams playing in the Carnival.

Thanks to the efforts of the club’s green keeper, Johnno Johnson and his team of helpers the green was immaculate and played beautifully. Most importantly the weather Gods seem to be done messing with the Warwick East Club and conditions were perfect.

The overall winners of the Carnival were Kim Hankinson, Barry Ziebell, Dave Scotney and Clark Davis, the team from the Southern Cross.

The runners-up were Bob’s visiting team from Wynnum while the third placegetters were the team of Mark and Julie Lister, Aaron McKinney and Adam Tozer from Tannymorel.

The first round winners were another group from Southern Cross, Wayne Foster, Julie Foster, Mary-Lee Wilson and Leon Holland.

Peter Collis, Peter Ayerst, Elana Scott and Dale Callaghan were the second round winners while the Summit team of Frank Taylor, Zel Zamprogno, Pam Moore and Darren Stanley took out the third round.

The club extends a big thank you to the . Enormous thanks must go to the Carnival major sponsors – Oak Tree Retirement Village, Warwick Credit Union, Warwick RSL Memorial Club, Spano’s IGA and Warwick Hotel. Thanks also to those who donated prizes for the raffles including the Condamine Sports Club, Hynes Newsagency and AJ Tobacconist.

The Games director Steve Ford, chief carnival organizer Margaret Wright and kitchen and bar staff all did a fantastic job. Thank you also to those members who and attended Saturday’s working bee and those who also assisted with the setup of the green on Sunday.

Mixed Social bowling resumes this Saturday with play starting at 1pm. The situation will be the same the following weekend (26/11) however from Saturday third, the club plans to trial Twilight Bowls with play starting at 4pm and continuing under lights after free sausage sizzle.

A reminder that next Thursday (24/11) the club will host their regular Pairs competition. Play will begin at 10am.

BUSY WEEK AT CLIFTON

A busy week at the Clifton Bowls club kicked off with Night bowls last Thursday. The night bowls format continues to prove popular and on Thursday, eight teams rolled up for the competition.

Contractors scored a very comfortable 15-5 win over Unsalted Peanuts. Aw Gees also had a nice win over Bowling Stones. The score 15-8.

The game between Daley Rurals and Rock n Bowlers was the closest of the evening. In a low scoring game, Daley Rurals managed a 9-6 win over their rivals.

Untouchables were another team to score a comfortable win. They defeated Holy Rollers 16 – 9.

At the end of the evening Contractors were named the Winners of Winners and the Winners of Losers were Holy Rollers.

On Saturday afternoon the cub hosted the Weier Boys day and a full green of 64 bowlers and pretend bowlers enjoyed a colourful afternoon of bowls.

The prize-winners were drawn but these are the individual results of all games.

N Hussey, C Brunner, B Fiedler and D Hoy had a two shot win over D Rollings, J Cochrane, A Hickey and K Kuhn. The final score 18 – 16.

In what was a low scoring game K Briggs, T Sendall, Larry and Stretch defeated M Rollings, R Daley, D Smith and R Chicken 9 – 6.

At the other end of the scale H Nicholson, C Rowlings, G Death and M Kindelan had a big win over D Wiltshire, M Arthur, G Dwan and T Arthur. In a high scoring game, they were 30 – 15 winners.

D Toovey, D Williams, Bluey and M Scott had a 21-18 win over A Rollings, K Nicholson, L Williams and P Ryatt in a close game.

It was an even closer score in the game between E Hobbs, G Smith, B Hobbs and M Tracey .

They scored a one shot win over G Knights, R Daley, R Williams and N Postle (17-16).

S Lees, M Brouwers, D Brouwers and D Schefe scored a 20-16 win over opponents T Logan, J Pike, K Morris and L Smith.

Nikki, Nat, Spida and J Bero also had a 19-14 win over J Charman, D Willocks, Alby and S Bero. The final group of B Betts, M McIntyre, A Imhoff and J Parkinson defeated B Donovan, A Cohen, T Green and G Hawker 23 – 18.

Looking ahead

Thursday 17 Nov. – Country Week Night Bowls. Please be at the club by 6.30pm ready to start at 7pm. The sponsors of the Country Week Night Bowls are Bill Keenan and Rhonda Glare.

This Sunday (20/11) the final of the Competition Triples will be played at 1pm. There will also be social bowls Sunday afternoon.

The club’s popular mid-week fours are scheduled for Wednesday 23/11. The game starts at 11am and is sponsored by Ray Chicken.

There will be no Social Bowls on Saturday 26/11 as there is a private function at the club.

Bowlers should have 10 December noted in their calendars – It is President’s Day at the club. Bowls commence at 2pm and will be followed by the club’s presentation of Trophies and Christmas party. – this is a casual dress day.

The club’s final Committee meeting for 2022 has been scheduled for 7pm on Monday 12 December.

On Friday (18/11), the bar at the Clifton Bowls club will open from 5pm. Meals are available from 6pm and bookings can be made by calling Julie on 0402029263.

Necia Creighton won the Member’s jackpot ($40.00) on Friday night. As a result, the jackpot reverts to $20 this Friday night.

PERFECT CONDITIONS AT SUMMIT

Social bowls were played in perfect conditions at the Summit Bowls club last weekend, conditions that once again have been somewhat of a rarity in recent weeks.

All the sunshine was perhaps a little too much for the “keeper of the cards” as unfortunately they are unavailable as we go to press.

The Summit Men’s Triples Championship (club selected)will be played this Saturday and bowlers will be hoping for more of the ideal conditions.

9.30am – Game One – John Fairley, Adrian Jackson and Rob Capelli V Barry Murphy, Michael Sweeney and Glen Preston.

Participating players are required to be at the Summit Club by 9am in preparation for a 9.30am start.
